  3. The Capital PC User Group, Inc. (CPCUG) is a nonprofit,all volunteer
  4. educational and support organization for users ofthe IBM PC and compatible
  5. microcomputers.  Established in 1982, the CPCUG has grown from less than 50
  6. members to about 5,000 personal computer users around the world.  Our main
  7. goal is to provide a forum for PC users -- from novice to expert -- to share
  8. their knowledge and experiences with other members and the general public.

  22. The best answers to questions about PCs come from users who are excited about
  23. the new and growing power of the microcomputer.  And that's who you will meet
  24. if you join us at our monthly meetings. Imagine having top professionals from
  25. almost every arena of this constantly changing field ready and willing to
  26. share their expertise with you!

  28. Of course not all our members are experts; many new users come to the meetings
  29. to get an unbiased view of the array of computers, software, and computer
  30. products available in the market, and to make educated decisions about what
  31. will fit their needs and budgets.

  33. Once a month the Capital PC User Group meets to answer questions, exchange
  34. information, learn from experts in the field and explore the continuing and
  35. exciting advances in microcomputer software and hardware.

  37. Open to the public, the CPCUG meetings are held in the facilities of the
  38. Masur Auditorium, first floor of the Clinical Center, (Building 10) at the
  39. National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland.  The main entrance
  40. is on Center Drive; an underground parking lot is located off Memorial Drive.

  42. The format for each meeting is:
  43.  
  44.   6 p.m.  Membership registration, Software Library disk sales and information.
  45.  
  46.   7 p.m.  Question/answer period during which a panel of experts fields
  47.           questions from the assembled audience on a wide variety of computer
  48.           subjects.
  49.  
  50.   8 p.m.  General Meeting Program. All other activities close.
  51.  
  52.   9 p.m.  Meeting officially closes.

  58. The Capital PC Monitor --- Our Monthly Magazine

  60. The Capital PC Monitor, free to members, contains a wealth of information,
  61. practical tips and hot industry news.  Regular features include reviews of
  62. software and hardware products, legislative and business news, special
  63. interest group notes, editorials, and columns addressing a variety of personal
  64. computing issues.

  70. The Capital PC User Group Software Library offers a large and growing number
  71. of the best public domain and shareware software programs available today.
  72. These programs are the cream of the crop -- each has been tested and evaluated
  73. by user group members.  Software available includes word processors, databases,
  74. spreadsheets, utilities, disk managers, and communications packages. All
  75. Software Library programs are available on diskette (for a nominal charge) at
  76. the monthly meetings, Saturday seminars, or by mail.  Much of the software can
  77. also be downloaded from the user group bulletin board.  There's no easier or
  78. safer way to add to your own software library -- so don't miss out!

  82. Promoting Users' Rights

  84. The Capital PC User Group (CPCUG) is a leading advocate of users rights.
  85. The CPCUG has spearheaded efforts for ongoing dialogues with software and
  86. hardware vendors in order to address quality, warranty, and copy protection
  87. issues.  Our group has a forceful voice in national issues and legislation
  88. that affect PC users.

  90. We are concerned about the rights of microcomputer owners and end users of
  91. software, and believe that is it essential to promote communication among
  92. users, vendors, and producers of computers and computer-related products.

  98. Wouldn't you like to sit down with a group of PC users who are working with
  99. the same software, the same hardware, or even the same set of problems you
  100. are working with to share solutions, deal with frustrations and get a scoop

  103. The network of more than 30 special interest groups (SIGs) within the
  104. Capital PC User Group focus on many different facets of the personal
  105. computing field.  Smaller group size, common interests, and relevant
  106. experiences of SIG members generates more in-depth discussion and
  107. problem-solving than in the general meeting.

  114. source of information and advice -- out electronic Bulletin Board System.

  116. The Capital PC User Group operates a BBS, the Member Information Exchange
  117. (MIX) that serve as an extension of the monthly meetings;  members share
  118. technical expertise and practical experiences.  You can find information
  119. on the best prices and vendors for a particular product, get help with a
  120. software or hardware dilemma, or exchange advanced computer language
  121. programming.  Questions and comments from any user -- from beginner to PC
  122. wizard -- are always welcome, and are promptly answered.

  128. Need help with a computer or software problem?  With the Capital PC User Group
  129. Help Line your solution may be only a phone call away.  The Help Line is a list
  130. of members who have volunteered to provide phone assistance in their areas of
  131. expertise. Help Line lists are published in the Monitor (the monthly user group
  132. publication), and are available on our member bulletin board system.  Users
  133. helping users -- this invaluable service is a perfect example of what our
  134. group is all about.
